Realization

作者:Loralin

All over the world, the questions are similar. How do I stay safe? How do I get food? How do I keep from going stir crazy at home?

The first week, it was like a vacation from normal life. Then there was a lot of wandering around the house, reading, fixing food, talking to people on Skype or Zoom or FaceTime. A LOT of talking. Then more wandering around, without normal activities or structure. Eating. Not enough walking or exercise. Thinking about doing projects but not doing them.

Then last week I realized no one was going to come into my family room and make me do anything. Only I was going to break my own inertia.

So. I've been working out to a vigorous strength/cardio video every couple of days. The other days I walk and do other kinds of active things. Getting the blood circulating has definitely helped the brain work, too. Yep, I've been making masks. And the projects are starting to roll. My desk is cleaner, my files are beginning to be under some control. I'm working on today, but thinking ahead. (Those who aren't retired yet might think this is how retirement is. And it is, sort of. But normally you have so many more external options).

Speaking of masks, I think they're going to be with us for a long time. It will be a defining look for this age, instantly identifiable five or ten years from now (or twenty) as being the 2020 uniform. Just think of all the money we'll save on lipstick.

But. Along with the collective fear and uncertainty, has come an explosion of creativity and problem solving, from the company level to families and individuals. Different ways of distributing food, manufacture of safety equipment, creation of new products needed during this time. New business models, new ways of communicating. We are energized and motivated - the old ways don't work right now. We could end up better than ever after this. Yes, we could. Let's not mess this up.

Fully agree. The "crisis"'s spelling in Chinese is made up of two characters. One means danger while another presents opportunity. Most of people learnt or heart at least the word crisis management or risk management. It's time for everyone to think about how to manage it, especially for leaders (sorry, it's off the subject :)) I hope that the the marketing leader of Maybelline can see your note here and know what you told me that to enhance the ad. and sales on eyebrow pencil right now, and reduce the production of lipstick at the same time. :)

Still, as Steve Jobs said that "Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish." , it's quite difficult to stay hungry as we stay at home all day (cooking and eating occupy much more time than before, for me at least), but we can manage to learn more knowledge, read more books or do something interesting which we don't have enough time to do it formerly. Like your sewing. :)

Yes, we could end up better than ever after this. Let's not mess this up.

The Italian girls who played tennis at the roofs of two opposite building were awesome. They do have creativity and strong passions.
